Celaya Futbol Club have failed to pay their players in two months – so their squad thought of a unique way to let people know they are unhappy.
Before their 2-1 defeat to CF Merida, the Celaya team all put paper bags over their heads of the official team photo.
Some players drew dollar signs on the bags, while others had the words ‘pay me’ – hoping the demonstration may force the current board to take action.
Their actions may have prompted a quick visit to the bank by the club’s owners as the Mexican players’ association has revealed that measures are being taken to resolve the problem.
‘The appropriate measures are being taken and the situation is being resolved,’ the association announced on Twitter.
The players also complained that they have to travel to away matches on the day of the game and that the changing rooms at the club’s Miguel Aleman stadium are frequently without water and electricity.
Club Celaya sit ninth in the Ascenso MX league – Mexico’s second-division – without a win in their last three matches.
